A New Dentist Opening in Kingsthorpe: Hello, Northampton
Kingsthorpe has carried a king in its name for a very long time.
When the Domesday Book was written in the 1080s, the village was simply called Torp, and it was part of the Crown's own land. By the 1300s people were writing it as Kyngesthorpe, from the Old English word for a king and the Old Danish word for a farmstead, so it has been the king's farmstead, in name at least, for well over six hundred years.
It's changed a fair bit since then, of course. Northampton took most of the old village into the borough in 1900 and the rest of it in 1931. The trams came and went. The A508 and the A5199 now meet at Kingsthorpe's centre, one road heading off towards Market Harborough and the other towards Leicester. And on the crossroads the Cock still stands on its corner, rebuilt in 1893 where a coaching inn had stood since the 1500s, with the war memorial just across the road.
A short walk down Harborough Road from that crossroads, at number 23, is where we're opening our newest clinic.
Who We Are
We're UrgentCare Dental. We started out in Leeds as an emergency dental practice, the place people come when a tooth has gone wrong and they need to be seen quickly, and that's still the heart of what we do. Our emergency appointment is £20, and your X-rays are included in that, so you're not handed a second bill for the pictures the dentist needed to take anyway. And like all our clinics, Kingsthorpe will be open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. If you're seen after 11pm, the same appointment is £50.
Kingsthorpe will be our first clinic in the East Midlands, joining our clinics in Leeds, Manchester and Bradford. You can see those three on our clinics page.
Our prices are published on our pricing page, so you can see them before you ever walk through the door. That one decision does a lot of work, you see, because when you're going to a dentist you don't know, the cost is often the part that worries you most. We'd much rather you knew it at the start.
A Few Minutes From North Northampton
Here's the nice thing about being on Harborough Road. It's the A508, a main road north out of town, so if you live on the north side you can reach us without going anywhere near the town centre.
From Spinney Hill or Boughton it's about five or six minutes in the car. From Parklands, Moulton or Pitsford it's seven or eight, and the town centre itself is about eight minutes away. If you're up in Brixworth, it's a straight run down the A508 that takes about eleven. Those are the times on a clear road, mind you, and the school run can stretch them, but you get the idea: for much of the north of the town, we're just round the corner.
Finding a Dentist in Northampton
It's hard right now, especially for adults. When we looked at the NHS directory listings on 12 October 2026, through finddentist.co.uk, only one of the town's 29 NHS practices said it was taking on new adult patients. We've written more about that in our guide to finding an NHS dentist in Northampton, along with the options that do get you seen.
So if you've been ringing round and hearing "sorry, we're full" again and again, you're far from alone, and a clinic like ours is built for exactly that.
If It's Been Years Since You Saw a Dentist
Plenty of people haven't seen a dentist in years, and there's nothing strange about that at all.
Life gets busy, a practice closes its list, one year becomes three, and then the longer it's been, the harder it feels to walk back in. Nobody here is going to raise an eyebrow at how long it's been. We'll have a proper look, tell you plainly what we find and what it would cost to put right, and then you decide what you'd like to do. If you're curious what that first visit is like, our guide to a first dentist visit in years walks through it.
More Than Emergencies
UrgentCare Dental has grown well beyond emergencies, too. Our published price list covers check-ups, white fillings, composite bonding, clear aligners and dental implants, all in one place, and we've written about what cosmetic dentistry costs in Northampton if you're weighing it up. Our Clinical Director is Dr Zain Chishty.
Hello, Kingsthorpe
We're opening on Harborough Road soon, a short walk from the Cock. If you'd like to ask us anything before then, get in touch and ask away.
It's lovely to be joining you. We think the king chose his farmstead rather well.
Our Northampton clinic is opening soon.
UrgentCare Dental is opening at 23 Harborough Road in Kingsthorpe, our first clinic in the East Midlands, and like all our clinics it will be open 24 hours. The emergency appointment is £20 with your X-rays included, and our prices are published up front.
